REDEFINING AND ACCELERATING THE ROLE AND SCOPE OF DESIGN, FOR PURPOSE AND IMPACT

About Redefining and accelerating the role and scope of design, for purpose and impact

This session will explore from multiple perspectives, the expanding role design has to play in shaping our world positively.

A designer’s purpose is to embed intention and create specific outcomes in their work; solving problems and creating value for all kinds of challenges and businesses.

Initially limited to styling of products, the discipline is slowly evolving to more widely use the tools, frameworks, processes and mindsets to undo many of the outcomes that have come about from past work.

But change can and should happen faster as the world faces more complex and pressing issues that are both closely and distantly related to the design field.

Yet much of the standard design education or  working practice and training does not adequately equip practitioners, nor prioritise these planetary needs.

This rousing dialogue will unpack:

-How the design/creative education and industry has changed over the years.

-Where is the practice now and what is needed?

-How can practitioners (early and experienced) level-up to ensure relevance and competence?

-What are some of the challenges of practitioners and businesses?

-Stories of organisations that have tried to embed positive impact into their businesses

We will hear from industry practitioners, academia and more.
