ABOUT

Organised by Morisawa, a Japan-based font developer, and co-curated by Death of Typography, a Singaporean type collective, this exhibition presents creations by graphic designers, teachers and students from across Asia.

Through the medium of typography, their works explore and express culture and identity beyond its linguistic boundary. They reflect an awareness of myriad languages and hybridised contemporary cultures. Have their mastery and understanding – or lack thereof – of different language systems impacted their notion of themselves and their place in the world? Can type be separated from its inherent linguistic meaning?

Typography straddles visual appeal and written language, both of which are distinct forms of communication, and open to infinite interpretations. The works presented invite audiences to consider new forms of typography expressions, and to experience languages outside their own culture.
