TITHONUS: LASALLE BA(Hons) Product Design x SUTD Electric Vehicle Club
LASALLE College of the Arts and Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD) presents a transdisciplinary collaboration between engineering and product design students. Project EVAM by SUTD EV Club is an ongoing project to develop a high-performance electric vehicle prototype using an innovative 3D-printed aluminium technology. Together, engineering students from SUTD and LASALLE’s BA(Hons) Product Design provided inputs and developed the body panel. With Singapore moving towards achieving net zero goals for sustainability and decarbonisation, the BA(Hons) Product Design programme at LASALLE held a competition amongst its Year 1, 2 and 3 students, with the objective of giving the top three winners the opportunity to style the EV’s body panel that brings an artistic flair and emotional provocations that toy with notions of seductiveness and subversions of how EVs are conventionally perceived as utilitarian in form.
The three-student team’s proposal was assessed based on ideas inspired by entomology, crustaceans and/or 1960s Streamline Moderne forms in consultation with lecturers. The body panel will be 3D printed at SUTD’s Fab Lab, and featured together with the EV itself on the Campus Green at LASALLE’s McNally campus throughout Singapore Design Week 2023.
This is supported by Singapore University of Technology and Design, and LASALLE College of the Arts’ School of Spatial and Product Design.
