The 1kg Challenge will display finalist models from the 1kg Challenge Singapore – a public challenge to design and develop a sustainable 3D-printed model up to 1kg in weight. The exhibition will also feature winning models from the 1kg Challenge Japan, contributed by leading Japanese automotive companies.
The challenge and exhibition are jointly organised by the National Additive Manufacturing Innovation Cluster of Singapore (NAMIC) and ExtraBold. Their aim is to strengthen awareness and adoption of additive manufacturing for novel sustainable designs. Challenge prizes are sponsored by ExtraBold, Yinson GreenTech, and 3D Aura.

National Additive Manufacturing Innovation Cluster (NAMIC)
The National Additive Manufacturing Innovation Cluster (NAMIC) is a national platform led by the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR), supported by the National Research Foundation. NAMIC aims to accelerate the adoption of hybrid and digital additive manufacturing technologies under Singapore’s Manufacturing and Economy 2030 Vision, helping industries transform towards innovation and high value-added manufacturing using sustainably sourced, nature-based designs and cradle-to-cradle on-demand manufacturing.
Founded in 2017, ExtraBold’s mission is to realise sustainable manufacturing in a decentralised manner through additive manufacturing (3D printing) technology. Through manufacturing large-format printers for recycled materials, computational design, and training the next generation of digital artisans, ExtraBold is looking towards the future of distributed manufacturing based on recycling and mobility.
