ABOUT
Built-to-Object is an exploration on how value can be created from local waste by embedding circular material recycling loops in our public housing waste ecosystem.
Built-to-Object is a play on the colloquial acronym – BTO (Build-To-Order). With public housing BTO sites as the first point of study, the team sought to understand how everyone can better manage and process waste as a society to achieve a more sustainable Singapore.
The team explores a circular recycling service where users gain full transparency of their recyclables’ journey. The collected feedstock is then processed to create new products and services to enable cradle-to-cradle product life cycles through customisation, upgrades, and repairs.
In this first showcase, the team gives recycled plastics new life in a series of lifestyle and home furnishing products. Showing the potential of everyday recycled materials, embracing new expressions of sustainable living and consumption.
Built-to-Object is a recipient of the Good Design Research Grant by the DesignSingapore Council.
ORGANISER
Built-to-Object
Built-to-Object’s mission is to help Singapore recycle better, ensuring that our recyclables actually get recycled.
The organisation enables this by embedding circular material recycling loops in our public waste ecosystem, and unlocking the value of our waste by creating new circular products and services.
