Reliving the best bits of Singapore Design Week 2022

For 10 days in September this year, Singapore came out to play and experienced “Everything by Design” as part of the revamped, reimagined and revitalised Singapore Design Week.

After a break of two years, which incidentally coincided with the pandemic years, the festival returned with a brand new vision and was proclaimed as “A bigger, bolder flagship design fest” by The Straits Times.

There’s nothing like reliving the action. View some of our favourite moments in the video below and read on for a quick recap of the highlights.

More than 300,000 of you were part of SDW 2022!

With 70 events all over the city, there was something for everyone. Visitors checked out the SDW 2022 line-up, from the KIDS21x Dsg showcase in the Dempsey district, to the unveiling of a fresh collaboration at an ice cream gallery in Beach Road and an immersive design intervention at Little India.

The embrace of the unknown at the sold-out Design Futures Symposium (DFS)

For our DFS Curatorial Director Paola Antonelli, the sold-out symposium was such a successful event precisely because it formulated better questions about the future and gave us the opportunity to rethink the closeness of people and policymakers.

“Singapore gave us the trampoline to talk about it all, because it’s such an interesting and unique place for experimentation and for design,” she said.

The sessions were engaging and provocative in probing how design is fundamental to how we navigate the future. Read about the sessions here.

Local designers were front and centre at SDW 2022

Whether it was the President*s Design Award Tours, the Good Design Research Pop-up Exhibition or #Fashtag organised by Daniel Boey, local designers and their works were integral to the festival’s programming. In fact, SDW 2022 saw a smorgasbord of more than 60 events initiated by the creative community.

The love for EMERGE @ FIND

The first Southeast Asian designer showcase at FIND – Design Fair Asia was a huge hit with visitors who were intrigued and impressed by the depth and talent on display. Curator of EMERGE @ FIND Suzy Annetta shared that the outpouring of support from visitors was “really overwhelming’ and she even received a lot of interest for EMERGE to travel to Milan, Bangkok, Jakarta and Manila.
