ABOUT
Designing More-than-Human Futures is an immersive, cross-cultural event that brings together experts from Singapore and Australia to explore the role of design in advancing multispecies justice and sustainability. Organised by Queensland University of Technology’s School of Design in collaboration with DesignSingapore Council’s School of X and ThinkPlace Singapore, the programme aligns with Singapore’s ‘30 by 30’ strategy and its vision for a more liveable, loveable, and biodiverse city. The event opens with a panel discussion featuring design leaders and researchers working at the intersection of urban farming, ecosystem regeneration, and strategic design. Participants will then take part in a citizen science “walk-shop” at Fort Canning Park, using AI-powered tools to monitor bird song and capture images of local biodiversity. These observations will inform the creation of non-human personas – an emerging method in design that challenges human-centred conventions. The final session engages participants in speculative design, using generative AI tools to imagine utopian and dystopian futures for habitat-inclusive urban spaces. By fostering new skills and approaches, the event invites participants to rethink the role of design in shaping cohabitable cities where human and non-human life can thrive together. This programme is ideal for design professionals, researchers, policymakers, and business leaders interested in innovation and the future of urban living.
