Community by Design

ABOUT

Community by Design is a vibrant series of events celebrating the power of community design, curated by the newly formed collective communityze. Anchored by a ‘pot-luck furniture’ exhibition titled Community by Design, co-created by our members and a participant-driven Design by Impact Unconference, the event is a showcase of creativity.

The programme invites all to take part – through free workshops, tours of community-curated spaces, or casual conversations at the Community by Design Kopitiam (NAFA Campus 1 Level 1 along Bencoolen Street). Participants can also co-create future projects through the UnConference at National Design Centre Auditorium, in collaboration with NAFA-UAS.

Together, community design is celebrated as a tool for social impact, with communityze inviting everyone to shape a “we-first society” from the ground up.

communityze is a collective of community designers, researchers, placemakers and artists in Singapore that advocates community design for the social good, to foster collaboration, amplify diverse voices, and build shared resources to empower communities, elevate the profession, and shape a more participatory and equitable future.

Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, University of the Arts Singapore (NAFA-UAS)

Established in 1938, the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA), a founding member of University of the Arts Singapore (UAS), is Singapore’s pioneer and largest arts institution. Renowned for its rich heritage, NAFA-UAS is the only art institution offering a comprehensive range of education pathways from early childhood to adulthood.
