ABOUT
The delicate balance of development and sustainability is one that every nation is grappling with as witnessed from the long-term impacts of human activity affecting our planet and society.
Whilst striving to continuously improve the many indicators of the human experience, just a few amongst many – better life expectancy and health outcomes, improved quality of life and increased access to education for all – it is evident that the recognition of our intrinsic dependence on the health of the planet is missing. Yet it might be apprehensive to re-imagine what societal progress could look like in the 21st century.
In an attempt to bring about increased awareness and capabilities to address these complex challenges, this one-day workshop is intended to better equip designers and those in the design-related fields to understand the connection between humans and nature. “How Might We as designers co-create in harmony with nature, safeguard ecosystems and biodiversity, whilst meeting the needs of communities?” – The workshop will take you on a journey of understanding the intricate interdependencies and hidden connections, empathising with other life forms, stepping back in time and reimagining and redesigning an existing development project.
This workshop will begin with Biodiversity Collage, which is a required activity to participate in the rest of the workshop. If you have previously attended the Biodiversity Collage as part of a separate activity, you can join the rest of the workshop that will continue after lunch from 2pm.
Please note that during the registration you will be required to disclose when, where and under what context you participated in the Biodiversity Collage.
This is an interactive and participatory workshop so be prepared to discuss and share within the group.
We highly encourage avoiding single-use products for our event where possible. Please consider bringing and using your own water bottles and other reusables throughout our session.
