Workshop 1: A Buzzing Home

Programme Summary

How can we learn from leafcutter bees when redesigning our homes? In this workshop, students will engage with the Lemelson-MIT STEAM activity book to learn about leafcutter bees, the way they make their home, and the problems that they face.

Participants will go through the process of identifying a problem, understanding the needs, ideating, and designing a prototype. All teaching materials are reusable, and students will use recyclables in the prototyping process.

Workshop 2: Housing Hackers

Suitable for Ages 9 and up
Class Size: 6 – 8 participants
Duration: 1.5 hours

Programme Summary

In this workshop, participants will engage their critical thinking skills to identify and frame problems with housing in Singapore. Themes of sustainability, accessibility, and diversity will be introduced. They will learn about how leafcutter bees build their homes and make observations about a variety of housing types from around the world.

Participants will be introduced to the SCAMPER ideation technique to brainstorm ways to address the problems they identify, design their solutions, and prototype their ideas. All teaching materials are reusable, and students will use recyclables in the prototyping process.

All trainers are qualified and experienced in teaching children and youths in design thinking framework and methodology.
