ABOUT

In this exhibition, each designer is assigned a specific material, echoing the theme of a “Better and Sustainable Future of Living by Design.” This initiative adheres to a fundamental principle: emphasising the significance of materiality and imagination in crafting emotionally durable objects—a critical consideration amidst the prevailing hyper fixation of digitalisation and dematerialised experiences.

The project unfolds through a thorough research phase, during which groups delve into their designated materials, scrutinising sources, raw materials, processing methods, applications, and manufacturing processes. Subsequent case studies zero in on artists or designers who have achieved ground-breaking results using the assigned material. The creative element of the endeavour involves each group innovatively “creating” a series of “new materials” by blending their assigned material with secondary substances, setting the stage for the subsequent “Hybrid Theory” project.

As a Matter of Fact seeks to deepen understanding regarding materials and stimulate creativity in material synthesis. Drawing inspiration from pioneering applications in art and design, the project encourages participants to envision a future where materials play a pivotal role in sustainable and meaningful living. Through this exploration, the aim is to instill a sense of simplicity—highlighting that even in a world dominated by digital experiences, matter still matters.
