Yes, another grotesk sans serif no one asked for.

Completely unsolicited, nondescript, redundant—and absolutely necessary.

For Practice Theory (PT), at least. Practice Sans began as an internal tool, a workhorse typeface built for a purpose both specific and general. But over years of work—across screens, time zones, and hands—it became something more deliberate: universal yet specific, neutral but not absent, boring but full of character.

Practice Sans is designed in collaboration with Mark de Winne. While it carries all the refinements of its grotesk lineage as a sleek, highly legible, and contemporary typeface, it also became a way for the studio to explore the tension between the playful and serious. Its subtleties include native support for Latin and scarce Vietnamese diacritics, a reminder that even the most utilitarian forms carry cultural and linguistic weight. PT has long championed Southeast Asian innovation; this is their contribution to the region’s maturing design landscape and more inclusive visual expression.

Sans Everything, on the occasion of PT’s tenth anniversary, is an unorthodox showcase presented through videos, applications, and tongue-in-cheek merchandise. It reflects on the invisible labour of typography, the structural work that supports, shapes, and often disappears behind everything else. In making Practice Sans visible, the studio invites you to challenge assumptions and explore a part of the scaffolding that has long underpinned their own output.
