ABOUT
Singapore has a long history of proactively integrating ”greening” into its built environment, recognising the essential role of nature in urban living. Over the years, the nation has continuously advanced this vision, progressively shaping more ecologically sustainable spaces. The latest initiative, City in Nature, represents a significant step forward in this journey.
Despite these efforts, the current approach continues to draw a clear distinction between human-made environments and the “natural” world. This exhibition explores a reimagining of the relationship between people and nature, positioning humans not as separate from, but as an integral part of, the natural environment. Through this lens, the design of urban spaces can better foster coexistence between people, flora, and fauna.
This perspective posed a series of critical questions:
Is it possible to cultivate environments that are not only sustainable but also comfortable for all forms of life? What might a future liveable, nature-integrated city look like? Could it feature lower ambient temperatures, fully walkable urban landscapes, or other human- and nature-friendly innovations? Such considerations encourage the next generation of designers and planners to move beyond sustainability towards a generative approach – one that actively restores and enhances the shared environment.
