Design Futures: Coastal Survivability

ABOUT

Students from the BA (Hons) Design for Social Futures (DSF) at LASALLE College of the Arts, University of the Arts Singapore explore the climate vulnerability of an island city. They examine the potential impacts on coastal resilience in the context of marine heatwaves and rising sea levels, especially in the age of A.I. 

Visitors are invited to view various worlds constructed by the students through a deliberate and creative presentation of fictional artefacts and diegetic prototypes. These envisioned futures cover different time horizons and are approached from innovative, speculative, or critical angles.

The BA (Hons) Design for Social Futures (DSF) is a new programme created for the citizen designer who advocates for the futures they envisioned living in, from inclusive societies with marginalised communities to climate action, through the lens of care-centred design practices.

CO-ORGANISER

Team HABs, Tropical Marine Science Institute, NUS

Team HABs is led by marine scientist Dr Sandric Leong where his team investigates and monitors harmful algal blooms, microplastic pollution and food security from fish farming among others. As a guest lecturer, Dr Sandric brings relevance to the speculative futures imagined by students with ground research and data.
