ABOUT

Silver Beats: Gamifying Lion Dance Drumming for Seniors is an interactive programme and exhibition that reimagines lion dance drumming through the lens of inclusive design and joyful aging. At the heart of the experience is the internationally recognised Silver Pride Lion Troupe — Singapore’s pioneering lion dance troupe made up entirely of seniors.

Blending cultural tradition with interactive technology, the programme transforms drumming into a gamified experience tailored for the silver generation. It promotes physical coordination, mental agility, emotional well-being, and community connection — all through the timeless rhythms of lion dance.

Visitors can explore prototype exhibits, take part in hands-on drumming activities, and attend behind-the-scenes talks that unpack the co-creation journey, social impact framework, and design thinking that brought this movement to life.

Championing the “Design Impact” pillar of Singapore Design Week, Silver Beats demonstrates how design can address real-world issues such as ageing and ageism — empowering seniors not just to participate, but to perform, lead, and inspire. It is a celebration of care, culture, and innovation — one beat at a time.
